RF Evaluation and Compliance




RF Evaluation and Compliance are an essential part of the radiofrequency (RF) safety program. This process is mandatory for all operators of legal limit HF stations, as well as for personal hotspots. The RFE evaluation is conducted by determining the amount of RF energy that is absorbed by the head or body of a human or animal. Often, the power density of a device is measured by computing its power density per unit surface area.


Requirements of RF Exposure

The requirements for RF exposure evaluation are based on the corresponding product standards for transmitters. They set the average total radiated power and antenna available power that can be emitted by a device. These values must be below the low-power exclusion level, so that a device does not meet the standards. If the measurements or calculations do not meet these requirements, then the device is deemed to be outside the scope of EN 62479, and RF exposure evaluation should be performed according to other standards.


RF Evaluation

In addition to a field strength measurement, an RF evaluation can also include an assessment of the antenna's RF fields.
